Add a cooling center and clean air shelter to Grant County. We experience high temperatures and severe fire weather and/or smoke every summer and have to establish cooling centers and clean air shelters in the community. We would like to add a permanent cooling center and clean air shelter, in addition to other resources. The funds requested are to cover a heat pump for the building. We are founded to support children and families in our community, and know there is a need for places for children to exist when it is unsafe to play outside due to air quality, temperature, or UV index. The cooling shelter/clean air shelter would be open to all. We are also working on a plan to be an emergency shelter in our community, with a stockpile of food and emergency resources. The proposed plan would also allow us to be a warming shelter, though that is typically less of a need in our community.
