Gilliam Soil & Water Conservation District: Water
Gilliam County
Request: $90,200
In July, four fires burned almost 116,000 acres across Gilliam county. Ten cattle operations lost the pasture where their herds were grazing, the livestock have been moved to temporary holding pastures and are eating hay that is reserved for winter months. There are emergency pastures available for them to feed, but there is no water in those pastures. Gilliam County is requesting funds to purchase 15 portable, aluminum drinking troughs (1,300 gallons each), and haul water to those troughs placed in emergency grazing pastures through the fall. The SWCD will own the troughs and be able to use them during future emergency situations, the livestock producers will move and place the troughs.
