We need security upgrades and a counselor.
We are hosting our community meeting November 3 to hear ideas and recommendations from families, we will at least need facility improvements that include:
vestibule (we believe we are the only school in BLS system without one)
intercom system across three buildings
door and window upgrades
fencing adjustments
To support student crisis management and prevention, we need a school counselor, at least part-time, to start (about $40,000 for the rest of this year) until we can strategize on how to sustain a counselor position. Before this tragedy, we’ve had students who have unexpectedly lost a parent, students with challenges outside of school, students who have social challenges, etc. While we can recommend external resources to our students and families, and are able to support them the best we can with our training, we aren’t professionally trained.
