Linn County
Request: $40,000
When a wildfire occurs, accurate, current information about road access and conditions can be critical to firefighter safety and incident response. Linn County contains an extensive network of gravel and forestry roads across a checkerboard of private industrial and federal timberlands. Through Wildfire Ready Linn County, SSWC is coordinating a roadside fuels and access inventory covering approximately 3,500 miles of forest roads. The project will document roadside vegetation, gate locations and access status, potential water sources for fire engines, vehicle access, and potential helicopter landing zones. A suitable high-clearance, four-wheel-drive truck is essential to safely and efficiently reach remote roads and complete this fieldwork. We are requesting $40,000 to purchase a used vehicle that will enable this critical wildfire preparedness project.
The roadside fuels and access inventory is a collaborative wildfire mitigation effort intended to improve the quality and accessibility of information available to responding agencies. The requested vehicle is a practical, foundational investment that will enable the project to safely reach remote locations and complete field verification across a large, varied road network. The resulting information will help local, state, and federal partners make better-informed decisions during wildfire incidents and support continued coordination across jurisdictional boundaries. Thank you for considering our proposal.
