An estimated 11,000 acres of standing winter wheat burned, approximately one seventh of the county's annual crop. New seed will prevent that bare ground filling with weeds that become future fire tinder, and the seed must be planted in October. Landowners will plant with their own equipment and fuel, this request is for the seed to replant, and four broadcast spreaders that attach to a side-by-side to seed steep and rocky ground.

We are in need of a 4wd, 4 dr, crew cab pickup with tool boxes and water tank for Community Risk Reduction efforts, Fuels Reduction/Mitigation and Crew/Staff use. Capable of towing our Fuels Reduction Trailer throughout the community and region as we continue to work to reduce wildfire risks, improved response and recovery capabilities through community education and hands on efforts.  We have limited vehicles for staff use and currently our only similar vehicle is being used on a wildfire conflagration supporting firefighters.

Vernonia Fire lacks a second 4x4 small fire engine. With high-density forest areas, small, narrow driveways and many off-road areas, having a means to get firefighting equipment and water to a forest fire is crucial. A new 4WD "Type 6" fire engine costs around $300,000. For $35,000, we can convert a 10-year old truck into a small fire engine for rapid response. Our current wildland response rig is 23 years old.

We are in need of financial support for the Wheeler County Search & Rescue team. Most of this team are volunteers and people are using their own vehicles, dozers and money for gas, food and water to fight this latest fire. They work 24/7 for weeks at a time and they are exhausted.

The City of Gold Beach and Gold Beach Wedderburn Fire District are in the process of conducting a feasibility study to do a merger and consolidation of the two districts and creating one district that would encompass both coverage areas.  This would ensure fiscal stability for the fire district as well as the City of Gold Beach.The project will upgrade an aging response vehicle to ensure terrain-capable, trauma-informed chaplaincy support during wildfires, floods, and other emergency responses.

The Jefferson Fire District is requesting funding for two ambulance gurneys, a power-load system, and thermal imaging cameras. This equipment is essential to maintaining and enhancing our life-saving capabilities during emergencies and natural disasters.

We request $75,000 to finance a new-to-us Brush truck purchase and associated pumps, hoses and fittings. So far in 2026, North Pendleton RFPA has responded to one large fire at over 8,000 acres, and two mutual aid requests that were less than 10 acres. No structures were lost thus far. Response vehicles to fires this year have all been farmer or rancher owned vehicles or tractors, which are not equipped for fighting fires.

The Warner Valley Rural Fire Protection Association is requesting funding to purchase a Caterpillar D5 or D6 high-drive, enclosed-cab bulldozer to increase safety and strengthen wildfire response across more than 1.3 million acres surrounding the communities of Adel and Plush in southeastern Oregon.

We have leads on used water tenders from other fire districts, and would love to find a new or nearly new vehicle that could be customized to fit our particular need, rugged gravel roads, steep forest roads with little access or egress. Without the Prospect RFPD, the nearest fire response would be 30–45 minutes away, placing the community at even greater risk.

This grant fund would allow our district to purchase a newer, safer, better equipped wildland fire apparatus to protect both our community and our neighboring forest land.

The Vale Rangeland Fire Protection Association (RFPA) is requesting disaster‑resilience funding to purchase and outfit a road grader that will be used to create and maintain fire breaks across rangeland protection area. The region faces increasingly severe wildfire seasons, and the ability to rapidly construct and reinforce fire breaks is one of the most effective tools we have to keep rangeland fires small, protect rural communities, and prevent large‑scale disasters.

Wheeler County had an unprecedented wildfire season in 2024, like many other areas. A total of approximately 147,675ac burned (~14%) amongst 7 separate mega-fire incidents, not including the smaller fires responded solely by local volunteers. Funding through this proposal will be used for the high-priority need of purchasing forty Bendix King (BK) Radios to be immediately used across fire response agencies in Wheeler County.
