A Greater Applegate
Applegate Valley in Jackson and Josephine Counties

A Greater Applegate is seeking funding to secure .65 FTE of staff time and some flexible funds to be used for travel and engagement events to continue the Applegate Wildfire Resilience Initiative and build out a larger network of support that connects hubs and neighborhoods across Williams, Applegate, Ruch, Murphy, and Wilderville (the five recognized but unincorporated communities of the Applegate Valley).
The recent update of the Applegate Community Wildfire Protection Plans calls to sustainably fund a local Applegate Community Wildfire Resilience Coordinator position to support the long-term coordination and response capacity with local emergency response agencies (i.e. AFD, county-level emergency management, ODF, etc.), and other partners, such as Firebrand Resiliency Collective’s development of Firewise neighborhoods and community resource and risk mapping work throughout the Applegate Valley.
The coordinator is also needed to:
Host quarterly leadership meetings and annual activation drills so that community leaders stay trained and able to respond to any emergency or disruption.
Integrate the AV Farm & Food Network into the Resilience Hubs and along the HWY 238 Corridor, including the local grocers, the Whistling Duck Farm Store (also a resilience hub grantee), the mobile food trailer, and the Aggregation Hub.
Begin coordination of the 3rd Resilience Hub in Applegate, including the library, the Lindsay Lodge, and the market.
Train active CBOs in how to refer residents to sign up for official alert systems and how to enroll in the RVCOG Disaster Survivor Intake during an evacuation event.
Establish agreements between relevant partners (i.e. Red Cross, county emergency management, OREM) and community hubs to act as formal shelters and reduce the burden of risk for local CBOs.
Operate our Mobile Emergency Response Vehicle
Ensure that local CBOs have the resources to filter air and back up power on premises to be able to properly assist employees, residents, and visitors.
Formalize a connection between Oregon Livestock Council and Jackson and Josephine County emergency management offices to promote high enrollment, especially among elderly and limited-mobility livestock owners.
