The Cascades Region of the Red Cross is requesting support for our response to the ongoing fires in Oregon. We are currently operating shelters in response to the following fires: Beachcomb & Bench Fires (Madras, Jefferson County), Grasshopper Fire (Maupin, Wasco County), Green Mountain Fire (Prineville, Crook County), Hagen Fire (Pendleton, Umatilla County), Second Flat Fire (Crane, OR, Harney County), and have a stand-by shelter prepared for the Shingle Fire (John Day, Grant County).

Companion Animal Medical Project (CAMP) is requesting $5,000 to purchase pallets of dog and cat food for families impacted by wildfires in Sisters, Prineville, and on The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. As emergency evacuations force residents from their homes, access to basic supplies is critical.

An estimated 11,000 acres of standing winter wheat burned, approximately one seventh of the county's annual crop. New seed will prevent that bare ground filling with weeds that become future fire tinder, and the seed must be planted in October. Landowners will plant with their own equipment and fuel, this request is for the seed to replant, and four broadcast spreaders that attach to a side-by-side to seed steep and rocky ground.

The SWCD will own the troughs and be able to use them during future emergency situations, the livestock producers will move and place the troughs.

Jefferson County Public Health is seeking support for current wildfire smoke response efforts and to strengthen the county’s ability to deploy emergency supplies where they are needed most. The request focuses on immediate wildfire smoke needs, evacuation support, geographically isolated communities, and maintaining essential operations if power disruptions occur.

We are in need of a 4wd, 4 dr, crew cab pickup with tool boxes and water tank for Community Risk Reduction efforts, Fuels Reduction/Mitigation and Crew/Staff use. Capable of towing our Fuels Reduction Trailer throughout the community and region as we continue to work to reduce wildfire risks, improved response and recovery capabilities through community education and hands on efforts.  We have limited vehicles for staff use and currently our only similar vehicle is being used on a wildfire conflagration supporting firefighters.

We are seeking grant funding to install a full-service generator at our main city well. Project bids and estimates total in at $425,000. This generator is vital for the City of Weston, Oregon, and the surrounding areas in East Umatilla County. Our local fire service areas extend east to the Union County line along Highway 204 and this whole area all heavily depends on the local rural fire district, EURFR, headquartered in Weston. The fire district is essential for both our community and neighboring towns.

Funding would cover one paid staff position to lead statewide coordination, a small media and communications budget, and support for a communication and coordination platform.

Our greatest resilience need is to assist rural landowners or residents within WUI who may be affected by wildfires during this season to restore and recover natural resources. These areas are more vulnerable to wildfire impacts and have less access to resources to assist them.

Ashland is in the 97th percentile of wildfire risk in the country. After an unusually dry winter, we are at extreme risk of wildfire. We applied for major funding from Oregon Health Authority to begin implementation of the city's newly approved Community Wildfire Protection Plan but this was unsuccessful. " To lower Ashland's risk profile, the residential area must become “a fuel break — not a fuel source,” according to the plan. So we are getting a modest (completely unfunded) start by initiating a grassroots peer-to-peer initiative to organize neighbors to reduce wildfire risks and improve evacuation safety.

Vernonia Fire lacks a second 4x4 small fire engine. With high-density forest areas, small, narrow driveways and many off-road areas, having a means to get firefighting equipment and water to a forest fire is crucial. A new 4WD "Type 6" fire engine costs around $300,000. For $35,000, we can convert a 10-year old truck into a small fire engine for rapid response. Our current wildland response rig is 23 years old.

We are in need of financial support for the Wheeler County Search & Rescue team. Most of this team are volunteers and people are using their own vehicles, dozers and money for gas, food and water to fight this latest fire. They work 24/7 for weeks at a time and they are exhausted.

Future Prairie, an Oregon 501(c)(3) queer arts nonprofit, is in direct contact with 12 LGBTQIA+ working-class Oregon artists displaced by the current Central/Eastern Oregon wildfires (Gilliam, Wheeler, Wasco, Crook, and Jefferson counties) who need to relocate permanently. They are currently being temporarily sheltered in Portland by Femme Rising, a trans-led dance and jiu-jitsu studio. Funds requested would cover near-term relocation costs—housing deposits, moving/transportation costs, and first month's rent—to help these artists secure permanent housing.

We plan to buy filters, fans, and tape for 25 air filtration kits for Ashland Fire & Rescue who will use those resources to the community including BetAIR's educational pamphlets and information on how to build these simple filters The requested funds will cover the cost of materials for 25 kits, which are roughly ~$70 each (including shipping costs).
