Eastern Oregon’s unprecedented wildfire impacts have created an urgent need for specialized expertise to understand what these fires have done to our landscapes and what successful recovery will require. EcoSource has established native-seed and restoration capacity, but we do not currently have dedicated wildfire ecology expertise to assess burned landscapes, identify restoration priorities, evaluate invasive-species threats, and translate those findings into native plant-material needs. EcoSource is seeking funding for a staff or contract employee, and has identified Trey Wall, an experienced local wildland fire and natural-resources professional, to provide this critical capacity.

This summer, Wallowa County experienced some of the worst wildfire and smoke conditions we have seen in years, forcing the cancellation of Saqáanma School, a six day program for Native youth. The program was scheduled for July 24–29: two days of land-based learning at the Homeland grounds followed by four days on the river.

Very few Nez Perce descendants live in Wallowa today, and social, economic, and logistical barriers make returning increasingly difficult. Yet in Nez Perce culture, homeland and identity are inseparable, and people carry a responsibility to know and care for this land. Programs like Saqáanma School create rare opportunities for Native youth to come back to wal’áwa, spend meaningful time on the land and water, and learn from Native educators.

Funding will support staff time, facilitation, and outreach to coordinate Grasshopper Fire recovery. The fire affected Badger Improvement District, Rock Creek District Improvement Company, portions of The Dalles Watershed, and high-use recreation sites and trails. SWCD and WCFC will convene agencies, irrigation providers, landowners, and recreation partners to identify priorities, clarify responsibilities, and connect needs with technical assistance and funding. Meetings, field tours, and expert presentations will address erosion, debris flow hazards, water supplies, and hazard tree removal along roads, campgrounds, and public access routes. Partners will develop a shared recovery work plan and funding proposals to protect infrastructure, restore safe access, support reforestation, and strengthen preparedness for future fire seasons.

For the last two years, Willamette Partnership has been facilitating the La Pine Basin All-Lands Partnership, dedicated to reducing wildfire risk in southern Deschutes and northern Klamath counties. This summer, we were notified that the federal government would not be fulfilling its last two years for our award, meaning our funding will run out by the end of 2026. We are requesting funds for six months of facilitation while we wait to learn if the group was awarded a BLM grant that would cover our next five years' worth of facilitation.

Chaa-lamali, TEIP's outdoor classroom, falls under Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Protection Districts and the Western Lane Districts.

As the fire season in our area is predicted to become more extreme and longer, we should take decisive action this year.  Acquiring a 300+-gallon firefighting water trailer for Chaa-lamali is a practical step, with an estimated cost of around $18,500.  This will allow us to meet the on-site mobile water requirements for fire suppression, as required by ODF.

- Continued facilitation of the Croplands Working Group, which is working on upgrading irrigation efficiency, identifying alternate cash crops, encouraging cover cropping, and reducing weeds on fallow fields

- Facilitating the NorthCentral Wildfire Resiliency Group until we can get specific funding for a long-term plan

Funding is requested to support a staffed coordinator to leverage and maximize the Collaborative’s impact, reach and resources. This request is urgent as fires burn, an increasing number of public sector agencies are needed in this work, an increased number of community organizations are engaged in this work, and the Rangeland Fire Protection Associations (RFPAs) - which almost exclusively serve Central and Eastern Oregon - face a daunting amount of increased response and resilience activity.

Requesting multiband portable radios and replacement of Legacy VHF radios. Total funding request. La Pine Fire lacks sufficient mobile and portable radios. Portable radios are a fundamental piece of equipment for firefighters, essential for ensuring their safety, coordinating operations, and ultimately saving lives and property.

First Nations Veterinary is requesting emergency funding to help offset the unexpected costs incurred while responding to an urgent animal evacuation situation during the July 2026 Hagen Fire in Umatilla County, Oregon. During the fire, we were contacted regarding a woman whose home and animals were located within the Hagen Fire evacuation zone. With rapidly changing conditions and the area placed under a Level 3 evacuation order, immediate action was needed to help protect her dogs.

We are asking for a grant to support the purchase of a dozer and repairs to our other firefighting vehicles after battling the Second Flat Fire. We used our hummers and heavy trucks to the point we were having to rotate them out to ones that were running while someone ran to Boise for parts.

The Wrights Spring Fire is creating an urgent need for coordinated outreach and assistance, particularly for families and individuals who already face barriers to transportation, healthcare, behavioral health services, stable housing, and disaster recovery resources. Tayas Yawks, a culturally responsive community-based organization serving Native American, rural, low-income, justice-impacted, and other historically underserved residents, is prepared to help meet these needs, but additional emergency funding is necessary to expand our response safely and effectively.

Immediate seed purchase for nearly 1,300 miles of wildfire suppression dozer lines across Wheeler County from the Rowe Creek Complex, Shingle Fire, and multiple smaller incidents ignited July 15th and still burning as of 08/04/2026. USDA has programs for disaster recovery; however, funding for those programs will not be available for application until the next federal fiscal year (November) and actions won't be funded until spring of 2027.

We are currently operating shelters in response to the following fires: Beachcomb & Bench Fires (Madras, Jefferson County), Grasshopper Fire (Maupin, Wasco County), Green Mountain Fire (Prineville, Crook County), Hagen Fire (Pendleton, Umatilla County), Second Flat Fire (Crane, OR, Harney County), and have a stand-by shelter prepared for the Shingle Fire (John Day, Grant County).

An estimated 11,000 acres of standing winter wheat burned, approximately one seventh of the county's annual crop. New seed will prevent that bare ground filling with weeds that become future fire tinder, and the seed must be planted in October. Landowners will plant with their own equipment and fuel, this request is for the seed to replant, and four broadcast spreaders that attach to a side-by-side to seed steep and rocky ground.

Gilliam County is requesting funds to purchase 15 portable, aluminum drinking troughs (1,300 gallons each), and haul water to those troughs placed in emergency grazing pastures through the fall. The SWCD will own the troughs and be able to use them during future emergency situations, the livestock producers will move and place the troughs.

We are in need of a 4wd, 4 dr, crew cab pickup with tool boxes and water tank for Community Risk Reduction efforts, Fuels Reduction/Mitigation and Crew/Staff use. Capable of towing our Fuels Reduction Trailer throughout the community and region as we continue to work to reduce wildfire risks, improved response and recovery capabilities through community education and hands on efforts.  We have limited vehicles for staff use and currently our only similar vehicle is being used on a wildfire conflagration supporting firefighters.
