High Desert Partnership
Harney County
Request: $55,000
High Desert Partnership’s Harney County Wildfire Collaborative brings together ranchers, Tribal partners, conservationists, fire professionals, community-based organizations and state and federal land managers to address one of Eastern Oregon’s most urgent ecological and community challenges: wildfires. By working across jurisdictions and ownership boundaries, the Harney County Wildfire Collaborative is building the partnerships, capacity, and landscape resilience needed to protect communities, working lands, and wildlife habitat in one of Eastern Oregon’s most fire-prone and economically distressed regions.
Funding is requested to support a staffed coordinator to leverage and maximize the Collaborative’s impact, reach and resources. This request is urgent as fires burn, an increasing number of public sector agencies are needed in this work, an increased number of community organizations are engaged in this work, and the Rangeland Fire Protection Associations (RFPAs) - which almost exclusively serve Central and Eastern Oregon - face a daunting amount of increased response and resilience activity.
